Member Gallery Spotlight: Richard Botters

Come see the photography of Richard Botters in the member gallery currently on display in the Monroe Art Guild through June.

Richard Botters is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, where after serving as an electronics instructor in the U.S. Air Force, he graduated from Samford University in Birmingham and did graduate work at Tulane University. He taught in the public school system in Birmingham for several years.

Richard’s first job, at age 14, was working after school in the dark room of his uncle’s photographic studio. This began his life-long association with photography.

Richard and his wife, Kay, came to Georgia in 1961, where he was associated with the Georgia Department of Labor as Director of Training and Staff Development. While there, he was involved in all aspects of audio-visual production from 35 mm film multi-media programs to video and satellite distance learning systems.

During this time, he continued his own photographic education at the Atlanta College of Art, the Southeastern Center for the Photographic Arts, and the Showcase Photographic School.

Richard currently resides in Auburn, Georgia, where he is associated with the Monroe Art Guild, the Georgia Piedmont Art Center, and the Athens Photographic Guild. In addition to exhibiting his photographic work at these organizations, Richard’s work has been exhibited at the Showcase School, the Atlanta Photographic Group, and the Southeastern Flower Show.
