"Project 365: Daily Discoveries" Photography by Stephanie C. Roberts Now on Display

Join us at the Monroe Art Guild for the Opening Reception tonight (Friday, May 8) 7:00-9:00pm to view our newest exhibit in the main gallery, "Project 365: Daily Discoveries" photography by Stephanie C. Roberts. The exhibit is on display through June 25, 2009.

Stephanie began the project on January 2, 2008 as a year-long study to visually document 365 days in sequence as a means of structured, personal photographic exploration. Images vary in subject matter and perspective – revealing seasonal shifts in light and color, and personal focus over time. The series culminated on January 1, 2009.

Stephanie is a documentary and fine art photographer and digital media producer. She lives on a cattle farm with her family in Walton County, Georgia where she sculpts natural light, thinks deep, avoids ironing, and enjoys watching the grass grow.

Recently, Stephanie and fellow Shutter Sister, Jen Lemen, won the “Name Your Dream Assignment” global photography competition, sponsored by Lenovo and Microsoft, for their submission "Picture Hope." This award sends them on a journey to five continents over the next twelve months to capture and share images and stories of hope.

Announcing: Summer Art Camp for Kids

Each year, the Monroe Art Guild reaches out to young artists in our community and hosts a Summer Art Camp. This year will feature two one-week sessions for children ages 5-12.

The first week will be June 15-19 for ages 5-8; from 9:00 am-12:00 pm with Instructors: Rosemarie Sells & Mary Alice Wood. Students will create exciting and innovative 3D works of art using recyclable materials and materials from nature. The exploration of John James Audubon’s paintings of birds and nature will serve as inspiration for color theory and painting creations.

The second week will be June 22-26 for ages 9-12; from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm with Instructors: Bobby Austin & Nita Bakay. In this week, students will explore the world of Native American cultures as they create clay whistles and pottery. Both traditional and creative painting techniques will be studied as a means to create exciting 2D masterpieces.

Summer Art Camps through the Monroe Art Guild offers opportunities for children to learn and explore sculpture, drawing, painting, pottery, color relation and many other artistic techniques. Space is limited to 12 attendees per week to ensure a high quality experience. Contact Bryan Hardman to learn more about upcoming art classes.

Fee: $85 per child (includes supplies)
