Dan Thoman
"Wood and Stone"
November 4 - December 29, 2009

The Opening Reception for Dan Thoman's "Wood and Stone" will be held Friday, November 6th at 6:30-8:30pm at the Monroe Art Guild located at 205 South Broad Street in Monroe, Georgia. The show runs from November 4 through December 29, 2009.
Dan Thoman, a retired engineer, is a self taught artist who started working wood decades ago out of his garage and describes it as a "hobby that got out of control." He has used a lathe for over 15 years and states it is his favorite woodworking tool. "It's great fun to take a single chunk of ordinary wood and make something beautiful out of it," he says. Dan uses local woods for most of his turnings, carvings and sculpture; these include: cherry, walnut, elm, oak, cedar, and bass wood (or whatever else people offer him). His favorite stone for turning and sculpture is alabaster, but he also enjoys sculpting honeycomb calcite, Colorado yule marble and limestone.

In this show he will be featuring:
