The first one will be Saturday, October 2 from 11am-1pm at 205 South Broad Street. The purpose is to build fellowship, trade knowledge, and share current work in the process or a recent work finished- you may want feedback. This will give a chance for some of you to meet outside of show competitions and receptions, and help to keep the artistic spirit alive and active. So bring a piece of art and let's talk! Remember "Show & Tell"? Well this is the adult artist version. Afterwards you can grab a bite to eat or a sweet tea at one of the great dining establishments in walking distance. See you there!

The lantern can dry at the Art Guild and then can be picked Thursday evening, November 4 when Downtown Monroe celebrates "Light Up the Night" when the lights in the trees in the downtown are turned on. Decorated lanterns from the workshop will be a colorful and unique addition to the festivities that evening. Class size is limited to 10 people. Children are encouraged to participate. Over the summer the Atlanta Beltline hosted a similar event and had it as a parade. Mr. Hardman remembers living in Germany when he participated in a Lantern Festival and parade, and that included singing and spending time with family and friends walking downtown. The Lantern Festival he was in celebrated the end of summer and the harvest season. Above is a photo from a group of friends with their lanterns (from The Wandering Schnecke).
